Hello parents and students!

I wanted to let you all know that the 2nd grading period is ending soon.  All work for the next report card is due to me by Friday, October 28th.  Students received grade reports last week.  If they bring them backed signed they will receive 5 points extra credit.  If the grade report did not make it home to you, feel free to email me at [email protected] and I can send you another grade report electronically.  All students who are failing will receive phone calls home Monday, October 24th.

Students are welcome to stay after school until 5PM on Monday October, 24th or Wednesday October, 26th.  We can provide transportation on an activity bus for your child or you can come pick them up yourselves.  If you are interested in arranging for your child to stay after with me, please email me at [email protected]

I want every child to be successful so please don't hesitate to contact me if you have concerns about your child's grade.  I hope everyone had a nice weekend and is ready to start another work week!

Best Wishes,

Ms. Abigail DeWeese

Just checking in!

Hello everyone!

The end of the 1st six weeks is coming up!  Since progress reports are coming up, I wanted to give all students the opportunity to make their grades the best they can be.  This week students will given a missing assignment report and folder with the missing assignments in it if they have any missing assignments.  Students (and guardians) with grades below a C will also recieve an email about their grade.

Students can either make up work, do quiz corrects or turn in missing work that was lost or turned in without a name on it to help their grades.  I have many no name papers hanging in the student center of my classroom.  I encourage everyone with missing assignments to check there first before doing the make up work.  All make up work is due Friday September 16th for the first grading period.

Quiz corrections for quiz #1 were given out last Friday and are due Tuesday, September 6.  I will extend this deadline to Friday, September 9th.  Quiz corrections for quiz #2 were given out Tuesday, September 6 and will be due Friday, September 9th.

Make up work folders will be handed out one day this week as well as Monday of next week.  Students can turn the missing work into the late work paper holder by the windows in my classroom.  Students who need extra assistance with make up work can stay after school with me on Wednesday the 7th or 14th for additional help.  Limited bus transportation is provided for opportunities like this.  Email me at [email protected] if you are interested in having your child stay after and I will give you more information about transportation.

Please don't hesitate to call or email me about your child's grades.  I want to do everything I can to help them be successful!  Ask your children to see their missing assignment report this week.  If they receive one and show it to you, I ask that you sign it as well so I know that you are aware of their grade.

Thanks for your help from home!

Ms. Abigail DeWeese

Dear Families,

Hello! I am Abigail DeWeese and I will be teaching your child’s social studies class this year. I look forward to getting to know you and your child over the course of the 2016-2017 school year. We will be covering United States history from European discovery of the Americas to the Civil War. In this course students will study the exciting story of how our nation developed into the place we live in today. It is my goal to provide all students with an educationally challenging, yet fun, experience in my classroom. All your child needs to succeed is pencils or pens, a folder for social studies work, a positive attitude and an open mind. I have high expectations of all my students. I am asking for your help to maintain those expectations by checking with your child periodically to make sure that his/her work is being done. I like to see our relationship as a team effort to ensure that your child is academically successful. You can help be a part of this team by staying relevant with what is going on in class by checking my class website at www.DeWeeseClassPage.webs.com. The best way to contact me directly is through email. I check my email several times a day. My email address is [email protected] I am also happy to meet, by appointment, or you may call Westport at any time during school hours and leave a message for me. I will return all calls and emails as soon as possible. I have included a copy of the course syllabus with this letter. Please review the syllabus and keep it for reference throughout the year. I encourage you to contact me with any questions or concerns you have about your child’s time in my classroom. I look forward to working with both you and your child this year!

Sincerely,

Ms. Abigail DeWeese
